How We Make Money
PolicyBenchmark is a free resource. You never pay to use our guides, reviews, tools, or any other content on this site. This page explains how we fund our operations while maintaining editorial independence.
Our Revenue Model
PolicyBenchmark earns revenue through affiliate partnerships with insurance providers. Here is how it works:
- We publish educational content about commercial insurance — coverage guides, carrier reviews, state guides, and interactive tools.
- Within that content, we include links to insurance providers where you can request quotes or learn more about their products.
- When you click one of these links and take an action (such as requesting a quote or starting an application), we may earn a referral fee from the provider.
This is a standard affiliate marketing model used by many independent financial comparison sites. The referral fee is paid by the insurance provider, not by you. Using our affiliate links does not increase your premium or cost.
What Affiliate Links Look Like
Affiliate links on PolicyBenchmark are labeled with language such as "Get Quotes" or "Compare Carrier Options." These links open the insurance provider's website in a new tab. Every page that contains affiliate links includes a disclosure statement.
What We Do Not Do
- We do not sell insurance. We are a content publisher, not a licensed agent or broker.
- We do not provide insurance advice. Our content is educational. We do not tell you which policy to buy or which carrier to choose.
- We do not share your personal information with carriers. Clicking an affiliate link takes you to the carrier's website, where any information you provide is governed by that carrier's privacy policy.
- We do not charge for any content or tools. Everything on PolicyBenchmark is free to use.
How We Maintain Editorial Independence
Our editorial process is separate from our business relationships:
- Reviews and ratings are produced independently. Our editorial team researches and scores carriers based on defined criteria (coverage options, pricing, customer service, claims experience, digital experience, and financial strength). Affiliate partnerships do not influence these scores.
- Rankings are not pay-to-play. The order in which carriers appear in our reviews and comparison tables is determined by editorial criteria, not by compensation.
- We cover carriers we do not have affiliate relationships with. If a carrier is relevant to our readers, we include it in our coverage regardless of whether we earn revenue from it.
- Affiliate relationships are disclosed on every page. We believe in full transparency about how we earn revenue.
Why This Model Works
The affiliate model aligns our incentives with yours. We succeed when we publish useful, accurate content that helps you make informed decisions. If our content is unhelpful or inaccurate, readers leave and we earn nothing. This creates a natural incentive to prioritize quality and accuracy.
